Teachers

Whether on a self-guided tour, a guided tour or a workshop, the centre invites your pupils to take part in a wide range of educational activities.

Multilingualism, the French-speaking world, theatre… As you look up at the lexical canopy in the Jeu de Paume courtyard, you’ll discover a wealth of entry points to themes linked to the school curriculum. Whether on a self-guided tour, a guided tour or a workshop, the Cité invites you to embark on a wealth of educational explorations, whilst promoting an interdisciplinary and cross-curricular approach. Tours are available in French only.

Educational programme

Self-guided tour

On your own, you’ll guide your group as they discover the château and follow the ‘Adventure in French’ tour route. The many interactive displays offer pupils a fun and engaging way to learn about the French language.

Educational Activities

Through these activities, you’ll be able to explore the heritage aspects of Villers-Cotterêts Castle and the themes that run through the exhibition dedicated to the French language. Four themed tours are available:

  • ‘A castle, a region’ explores the history and architecture of the castle and how it fits into its surroundings, right next to the Forest of Retz;
  • ‘A language in motion’ invites you to play with language and its capacity to constantly reinvent itself, to transform through contact with other languages, and to express emotions in very different ways depending on where you are within the French-speaking world;
  • ‘Language and Citizenship’ explores the links between language(s) and power, language(s) and identity, as well as the role of regional languages and the various language policies implemented to promote the use of French within the French-speaking world;
  • Finally, ‘The Language of Molière’ prompts us to consider the reasons behind this designation of the French language and to reflect on the contemporary relevance of the themes addressed in Molière’s plays (coming soon).
