Would the château of Villers-Cotterêts exist without the forest that borders it? Appreciated by François I for its game-filled character, the Forest of Retz, which has now been awarded the "Forêt d'Exception®" label, is closely linked to the history of the castle. The construction of the royal palace, which grew out of the former hunting lodge, gave rise in particular to the developments that have given the forest and park their current appearance. From the great lawn to the wooded canopy, from the circular pool to the pathways and the two boulingrins, discover the different aspects of this relationship between built and plant heritage.
